Parkview Neighborhood

There is still a sense of quiet rural serenity emanating from the meandering streets and stately homes of the Parkview Neighborhood. This neighborhood is located east of Highway 99 and brushes against the south side of lower Bidwell Park. Highway 32 closes the southern boundary, and the houses along  El Monte Avenue represent the neighborhoods eastern end. Parkview is within walking distance of Bidwell Park, a short drive from the Chico Mall, and just a few minutes from downtown.

The Avenues

In the latter part of the 19th century, Chico founder John Bidwell subdivided farmland that stretched north from his mansion, known as the Bidwell Mansion. Today, the area is an urban forest, with a densely populted grid of housing, schools, and businesses. This is a quaint tree lined area with single story homes with picket fences.  However, there are some with two stories with the large front porches. This neighborhood is one of the oldest Chico communities, and holds the highest price per square footage.

Housing on “path to recovery” written by Alan Zibel

Fewer people falling behind on home loans

Chico, ER February 20, 2010

The  end of  foreclosure crisis is finally in sight. For the first time in almost 3 years, the number of homeowners falling behind on their loans is declining.  The drop means the number of people losing their homes will start to fall. But some pain from the crisis sure to persist. Because millions of people are already in foreclosure, deeply discounted houses will put pressure on home prices for years. “Housing is on a path to recovery,” said Mike Larson, a real esatate analyst with Weisse Research.  “It’s going to be a very, long gradual process.”
